What to have ready (and what not to worry about)

Nothing, really. Room names and a rough window count are plenty. If you already know you want blockout in the bedrooms and something that keeps the fairway view in the lounge, say so — but if you have no idea, that is exactly what the consultant is for.

What the visit involves

Every opening measured properly, including the reveal depth and what the wall is made of.
A look at which way each room faces and what is outside it, because that decides the fabric.
Fabric and slat samples held up in your own light — colours read completely differently on a fairway-facing wall at four in the afternoon.
An honest steer when a cheaper option would do the job, and when it genuinely would not.
